Toke Lobo & the Pack (Werewolf Series)

“Once the religious, the hunted, and weary
Seeking the promise of freedom and hope
Came to this country to build a new vision
Far from the reaches of kingdom and pope.”

BACKGROUND

In 1793, a group of  French werewolves from the Garnier pack approached U.S. Minister to France, Gouverneur Morris, about seeking sanctuary from the Reign of Terror gripping France. In return for sanctuary in the young United States of America, the lycanthropes offered service–use of their unique abilities to assist the new nation. The werewolves shape-shifting ability allowed them access to places other spies couldn’t go. Their heightened senses–eyesight, hearing, smell–could only be an advantage to the fledgling government.

The lycanthropes insisted on two caveats to the terms of their service: only single males could serve; and even then, not on the night of a full moon.

Morris and Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson worked out the secret agreement, and the lycanthropes immigrated to the U.S.A.

BRIEF HISTORY OF WEREWOLVES IN THE U.S.

By 1880, the pack had worked its way to Colorado, where they founded the town of Loup Garou (French for werewolf). At first, Loup Garou was site of a silver mine owned by the werewolves and which supported the pack for nearly quarter of a

century. After the silver market went bust, careful management and a slew of small enterprises kept the pack going until 1933 and the repeal of the Volstead Act (a.k.a. the end of Prohibition). Forward thinking alphas decided to open a brewery, and thus the brand Moonsinger Beer was born. Not only did sale of the beverage support the village, it provided jobs for the humans living in nearby Oak Moon.

But some in the pack didn’t like the idea of creating and selling poison, because alcohol is anathema to a werewolf (along with chocolate). So again the pack looked to diversify.

In the early part of the 21st century, alpha male Tokarz de Lobo Garnier, a direct descendant of the original immigrants, started a country music band with several pack-mates. Toke Lobo & The Pack were a success, offering employment not only to musicians, but also werewolf roadies, fan club coordinators, drivers, and so on. Tokarz eventually decided to build a recording studio in Oak Moon as another source of income for the communities.
